Last Thursday and Saturday were Geetha’s and Jarrod’s temple and church weddings respectively. Fadelinah and I attended both and also the wedding reception. Both of us were happy for the couple ever since we heard of their intentions early this year, especially Fadelinah who just couldn’t wait for it to happen.

The wedding ceremony at the Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman temple was quite elaborate with the Hindu customs as compared to the church one. The couple looked great in their Indian costumes and some of the traditions are similar to a Muslim wedding. I found the whole thing rather interesting and took some time to appreciate the temple architecture. After the solemnisation procedure we said our goodbyes before proceeding to Mustafa Centre for our usual shopping.

Cathedral of the Good Sheperd was where the church wedding took place. Upon arrival, we sat a few benches behind where Jarrod sat while waiting for Geetha’s arrival. About half an hour later, the bride walked down the aisle accompanied by her father as the flower girl threw petals before her. Geetha looked radiant in her white wedding gown.

Unlike the temple wedding, this particular ceremony involved a lot of mass praying. Fadelinah and I just followed the rest of the guests although not muttering any prayers. We sat and stand whenever it was necessary. We also witnessed the priest scolding the photographer who went up the stage and couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. On the whole, the church wedding was beautiful, especially when Ave Maria was being sung. When the ceremony was over, both of us headed for Menotti for some chocolate rush.

The wedding reception at The Regent was made up mostly of both parties close friends and relatives. I never really liked going for such things since we always had to sit around a table with too many strangers. I just can’t eat properly if everyone’s trying to make small talk and act decent, especially one particular guy with his fake accent who was putting on his ‘nobler-than-thou’ attitude. After a photo session with the bride and groom, we left the place to much relief.

Our heartiest congratulations to Geetha and Jarrod on their marriage.
