March Or Die (Motorhead)

At the unearthly hour of 6 am yesterday morning, I was out the door heading to Mandai Camp 2 for my army unit’s 5 km route march. The CO thought it was a good idea to prepare the battalion for the upcoming Atec 2, by organising 3 route marches within the months approaching November’s ICT. Although armed with a medical excuse from the unit’s medical officer, I decided to just go through with it with the rest. Since I didn’t face any problem lugging shopping bags around Vivocity, the route march should be a snap.

Within an hour the march was finished and the next 2 will be 10 km routes. What a way to spend Saturday morning, topped with having to go to work after that.

On the way back along Choa Chu Kang area, the taxi driver said something that grabbed my attention.

Taxi Driver : “Sini banyak hantulah.”

Me : “Hah? Banyak hantu? Mana?”

Taxi Driver : “Tadi itu overhead bridge.”

Me : “Hantu apa?” *thinking that Fatimah Rocker was a staple feature on that overhead bridge*

Taxi Driver : “Itu cameralah! Traffic Police punya.”

Me : “Ohhh.”

Nabey! Just when I thought I’d finally be able to have an interesting conversation with a taxi driver rather than hear complaints about their lives.

  1. I suppose the people watching the ‘hantus’ are ‘setans’? 😀

  2. The taxi drivers themselves are hantus … only appearing after 12 am when you really need to reach home earlier. Whereas for those watching from the other side think they’re Ansel Adams. *pukes*
