Places To Visit (Saint Etienne)

It’s funny how much work went into cleaning up the apartment in time for the Hari Raya celebration, yet when the day actually arrives, I’m basically out visiting others instead of receiving them in my spick and span place. I started my leave from work last Thursday to finish by the coming Monday. Throughout Thursday and Friday, I actually had only 2 hours of sleep. The rest of the time was spent on the followings:

  • Replaced the busted kitchen and bathroom taps with new ones. (high water pressure keep busting every tap)
  • Tried miserably to re-seal the silicone around the kitchen sink. (a stressful and messy affair)
  • Painted the corridor and study room walls. (not enough time to paint the rest of the apartment)
  • Drilled and fixed shelves along the study room wall. (drill-master I am)
  • Mopped the entire floor. (Dettol and Fabuloso are my new best friends)
  • Washed and changed curtains. (hate this stupid chore)

After doing all that, I just realised that nobody that comes into our apartment would actually notice or care about the things I did. It’s always about the food. Maybe I’ll flex my baking skills next year.

Yesterday’s Hari Raya celebration started with Bak’s younger sister Cik Yati and family coming by our place around noon. It’s always nice to see them, especially Cik Yati; the only honest person I know who is ever willing to help others sincerely, and also the first to visit us without failing to bring ketupats along every year.

After they left, we went to Teban Gardens to visit Ayah, Ibu, Long and Fizah. Upon finishing the customary obligations, we commenced the visits to the usual suspects with them all decked in teal. Ooyah stole the show no doubt with her little kebaya, looking more like a mini Bibi Peranakan. There were lesser stops this time around, probably due to us starting it only around 6 pm. Hopefully, we don’t have to make up for the rest tomorrow.
