Barrage (Paul Bley)

We had an impromptu visit of the latest Singapore attraction, the Marina Barrage, last night while on our way home from dinner at Simpang Bedok. Come to think of it, it’s actually kind of sad when Singapore’s attractions tend to be of the man-made kind; this particular one being a tidal barrier cum reservoir. Part of it’s surrounding structures include an elevated radial turfed bridge to nowhere, where those who bother to climb all the way up are granted spectacular views of Singapore’s city skyline and marina bay, especially useful during the occasional fireworks.

Still full from our dinner, climbing it didn’t seem like such a good idea but we made do by walking within the ground compounds and watching the lit-up water fountain. We even let Ooyah have a go at the impressive nearby water playground. Not only were the children enjoying themselves, even the adults joined in the action too. I have no idea why Fadelinah packed Ooyah’s swimsuit in her Ernie bag earlier but it sure came in handy last night. The little one was so enthralled that she even pretended to swim in the shallow waters and refused to leave even though visibly shivering. We had to use the packs of durian we brought along as bait to entice her to leave the water playground.

We are definitely going back there again soon since there are still a few areas yet explored.
